Textbook: Intermediate Algebra for College Students, 8th edition, by Jerome E. Kaufmann and Karen L. Schwitters, published by Thomson, Brooks/Cole.

Material: Quadratic equations; equations in quadratic form; word problems, graphing; algebraic fractions; negative and rational exponents; radicals.

Attendance: In order to learn mathematics, it is necessary to be in class and to take accurate notes. You are expected to attend class on time. Absence does not excuse you from assignments, quizzes and exams!

Grading: Grades will be assigned on the basis of 450 points, distributed as follows: Homework   50; Quizzes 50; Exam I  100; Exam II  100; Final Exam  150; Total  450

Homework: Weekly homework will be assigned on each Friday and due the next Friday. This homework will be due by class time the Friday after it is assigned. No late homework will be accepted! The solutions to every problem are to be written in a clear, concise, and coherent manner. Solutions not clearly explained will not be given full credit, even if the "answer" is correct. 

Quizzes: Quizzes will usually be unannounced and will usually be 5 problems to be solved in 20 minutes. There will be totally 8 quizzes throughout the whole semester. Your best 5 grades will be counted towards the final grades. No make-up quiz!

Exams: Two 75-minute evening examinations will be given during the semester and a comprehensive final examination will be given during the final examination period. NO books, notes, or calculators may be used on the examinations!  You must bring your University ID card to all exams. The examinations will be given from 6:30 to 7:45 PM on the following dates:

Midterm Examination I: Wednesday October 3, 6:30pm - 7:45pm. Location: 010 Sparks
Midterm Examination II: Wednesday, November 7, 6:30pm - 7:45pm. Location: 112 Kern

Final Exam: Monday, December 17, 2007, 12:20PM-2:10PM, Location: 112 KERN

Rooms for the examinations will be announced before the exams, and may also be found on the bulletin board outside 104 McAllister. Students must sign up for the Makeup Exam  in 104 McAllister at least one working day before the makeup examination date. A permission slip (available at the sign up location) must be signed by the student's instructor and brought to the makeup examination room.
