Homework and quiz policy:
There will be a quiz every Wednesday starting January 23rd apart from during exam weeks; an exact list of
dates is available here. I will always
post solutions to the quizes here and on angel
the afternoon after the quiz is set; as such, I will not give make-ups, but will give
quizes a day early (by appointment) if you have a good excuse for not being in class on a
particular Wednesday. I will
drop the lowest two quiz grades that you receive during the semester. These quizes
will make up the 100 points allocated to 'homework / quizes' in the main syllabus: there are
eleven quizes (two of which will be dropped), each worth eleven points.
I will also set five to ten homework exercises from the book at the start of every class in which we cover new material, and post them here and on angel. These will not be graded, but the solutions can be found in the back of the textbook; please ask me about any difficulties you have with these problems. There are also some suggested exercises on the main course webpage here, which will be less specific to what we cover in class, but should still be helpful. It is highly recommended that you do at least some of each set of exercises to check that you understand the material, and as it will help you to learn it.
Midterm solutions are available here.
And finally:
If you have any questions, comments or complaints about the course and / or my teaching of it, please
contact me at one of the email addresses above.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this, there is an anonymous feedback form
available here (it sends me whatever you type as an email
from 'online form'). I will do my best to act on any (reasonable) comments.
