Our department is developing a multi-level plan for undergraduate research in mathematics, involving students at all stages of their academic careers - from first-year students to seniors. This includes a wide variety of opportunities:
Discovery experiences
in our mathematics first-year seminar course- Individualized research experiences for undergraduates in numerous mathematical specialties - click the Faculty Involvement link for more information about faculty in the Mathematics Department who are interested in being involved in such endeavors. (Note that many of these faculty may also be able to provide monetary support for such research activities.)

The goals of the Penn State CURM include:
- To serve as a
matchmaker
or liaison between the faculty and the students - To serve as a clearinghouse for information about undergraduate research in mathematics in general as well as specific opportunities for undergraduates to get involved at Penn State
- To provide organized means whereby students can fulfill their research goals and disseminate their results through conferences held at Penn State and related events
- To provide vision and leadership in the department in terms of undergraduate mathematics research
