Homework 3 - Reminder: full working will be required to earn marks for a correct solution
Due Wednesday 16th September in class
A) Section 2.2
Questions 1, 2, 4; 'Solve the given differential equation..'
Question 10 part a) only 'find solution of initial value problem'
[4 Marks each, total 16]
HINT: This is practice in solving separable equations. Take care not to
divide anything by zero. If you 'want to' divide by zero, there are two
possibilities: if the ODE is defined at this value, treat this case
separately . If the ODE is not defined at the 'divide by zero' value,
just exclude this value from your solution.
B) Section 2.3 question 16' Newton's law of cooling...'
Hint: Hmmm, coffee..... We'll get started on this question in class on friday as a team effort!
[6 Marks]
C) Section 2.3 question 19 'Consider a lake......'
Hint: This question is completely typical of the sort of thing you're expected to be able to do, and you should be all set!
I WANT TO SEE YOU SOLVE THE ODE - you've seen how to do this a couple
of ways for this type of equation, and you have the general formula -
still it's good practice for you.
[Total 16 Marks: a) 9 marks (2 for setting up, 4 for solving, 3 for limiting equation) b) 3 marks c) 4 marks]
+2 marks for stapling, your name, etc,....
