Information on Second Midterm Exam

The 2nd midterm exam is Monday March 26, 6:30-7:45 PM, in 102 Thomas.

The conflict exam for the 2nd midterm is Monday March 26, 5:05-6:20
PM.  Students who need the conflict exam must sign up in 108A
Whitmore, 48 hours in advance - this means by 5 PM Friday March 23 -
with a valid, documented excuse.

The 2nd midterm exam covers Sections 2.6-2.7 and 3.1-3.6 and 3.8 of
the textbook, Thomas/Finney 9th Edition.  The exam topics will be
drawn from the following list.

  implicit differentiation
  using implicit differentiation to find tangent and normal lines
  using implicit differentiation to find higher order derivatives
  differentiating rational powers
  related rate problems
  absolute maxima and minima over a closed interval
  local maxima and minima at interior points
  critical points of a function
  Rolle's Theorem, Mean Value Theorem
  average versus instantaneous rate of change
  functions with the same derivative
  first derivative test for local extrema
  concave up and concave down
  second derivative test for concavity
  second derivative test for local extrema
  points of inflection
  graphing with rise and fall, concavity, extrema
  evaluating limits at infinity
  limits at infinity of rational functions
  horizontal and vertical asymptotes
  dominant terms
  oblique asymptotes
  graphing with symmetry, asymptotes, dominant terms
  optimization problems
  optimizing boxes, cylinders, etc.
  cost and revenue
  Newton's method

Note: The final exam is Thursday May 3, at 8:00 AM, in 75 Willard.
