Chinese Computing at the Penn State Math Department

Thanks to the efforts of Steve Simpson, a useful suite of Chinese software runs on our computer system.

Both plain text and Chinese TeX are supported. Please feel free to look at some sample Chinese plain text documents and some sample Chinese TeX documents. Such documents are created by means of the following software:

• big2gb, gb2big, hc -- convert Chinese files between Big5 and GB
• c2ps -- convert a Chinese file to PostScript for printing
• cemacs -- Chinese version of the GNU Emacs text editor
• CJK -- Chinese LaTeX package (Big5/GB)
• cless -- Chinese-capable version of less
• cvi -- Chinese version of the vi text editor
• cxterm -- Chinese terminal emulator for X Windows (Big5/GB)
• hbftobdf -- convert HBF Chinese fonts to X Window BDF fonts
• hz2gb, gb2hz -- convert Chinese files between HZ and GB
• hz2ps -- convert Chinese files to PostScript (Big5/GB)
• pmc -- Poor Man's Chinese TeX (Big5/GB)

In addition to Chinese document preparation, the above software enables Chinese e-mail, Chinese news, and Chinese access to the World Wide Web.
