Syllabus:
Please check the
The Departmental Math 140 Home Page
for more information, such as the detailed offical
syllabus(lecture-by-lecture schedule, tutor inforamtion,
drop, exam regulations, conflict exams, makeup exam, grading
rules etc),
suggested homework problems, sample exams, exams study guide,
etc.
Homework:
Normally homework will be assigned after each sub chapter of the
book.
Homework will be collected every week, usually one week after the
assigned week, on a Friday.
Late homework will not be accepted.
The homeworks will be graded, but only selected problems
will be graded.
Normally, the lowest two homework grades will be dropped.
Here you find the tentative list of
Homework.
Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given throughout the semester on a regular
basis, normally once a week.
They will typically be announced one class in advance.
Calculators are NOT allowed in any quizzes.
Normally the lowest two quiz grades will be dropped.
Quizzes are given in class, and there is no conflict or
make-up for the quizzes.
This means: if you miss it, your grade would be 0 for
that quizz.
Class attendance and participation:
I strongly recommend full class attendance and participation.
In limit cases, this would be taken into consideration for your
grades.
From previous experience, I see that interactive learning
seems to be the most effective way.
Therefore, the students are highly encouraged to
ask questions whenever they are confused, and to answer my questions
during class, and also come up to the board to work out simple
examples. :)
My goal is to provide you guidance and help to learn
the basic concepts of calculus, which will be useful for you later
in study and work. I will try my best to make this learning
process more interesting, enjoyable and pleasant.
Exams:
There will be three exams in all, two midterms and one final.
The midterm exams are scheduled:
Exam 1: Tuesday Feb. 21, 102 Forum, time: 6:30-7:45 p.m.
Exam 2: Wednesday Mar. 29, 102 Forum, time: 6:30-7:45 p.m.
The final exam is during the week of May 1 -- May 5. Exact date and
time to be announced later.
Do NOT plan to leave campus before May 6!
Practice exams:
More practice exams for the final exam:
Grade guideline:
(Homework/Quizzes/Attendance) 100 points +
(Exam 1) 100 points +
(Exam 2) 100 points +
(Final Exam) 150 points =
(Total Full points) 450.
