| The Hecke-Iwahori algebra $H_n(q)$ is a quantum of the
symmetric group algebra. We conjecture a combinatorial interpretation
of the induced trivial character $\eta^\lambda_q$ on certain $H_n(q)$
elements. In particular, we conjecture that these polynomials are the
generating functions of the path tableaux of specified planar networks
under an appropriate statistic. We discuss connections to chromatic
polynomials and totally nonnegative matrices. |
