News from the 2009 Spring Meeting

The 2009 Spring Meeting of the Allegheny Mountain Section of the MAA was a great success.  Many thanks to Marc Brodie from Wheeling Jesuit University for his work behind the scenes in hosting the event.  Invited speakers Colin Adams, Tom Hull, and Betty Mayfield shared wonderful presentations, and a great number of students and faculty from within the section presented contributed papers. 

Winners of the section's 2009 Mentor, Service, and Teaching Awards were announced at the meeting.  They are:

• Mentor Award:   James Sellers, Penn State University

• Service Award:   Tami Lakins, Allegheny College

• Teaching Award:   George Bradley, Duquesne University

Please share congratulations with each of these individuals.  

During the Saturday morning business meeting, the following elections here completed: 

• Treasurer:   Ben Freed, Clarion University

• Coordinator of Student Programs:  Natacha Fontes-Merz, Westminster College

• Newsletter Editor:  Marc Brodie, Wheeling Jesuit University

• Second Vice Chair:  Pam Wovchko, West Virginia Wesleyan College
