Entering letter grades with Elion

Until last year, an electronic scanning system (with bubble sheets) was used to enter letter grades at the end of the semester. Since Fall 2002, the registrar has required that all latter grades be entered directly into the Elion system. You can enter grades from any computer which can access elion.

You will not be able to try this process right now, because the grade entry system is only available for a few days at the end of each semester. To change a student's grade after the online grading period has expired, you must fill out a grade change form in 107 Whitmore.

To enter letter grades, first log into elion. Then choose the Grade Entry option on the main elion screen.

There is an extra layer of authentication in the grade entry system. In addition to your Access Account password, you need a SecurID token:

You can get this from Becky Halpenny about a week before grades are due; you return it to her after you have finished recording grades. Becky will send an email telling you when to pick up and return your token.

To log into the grade entry screen, you enter your password and the number that appears on your token. This number changes every minute, so you have to have the token with you when you want to record grades.

After you log in, you must select your class, in the same way you select a class to get a class roster. Once you have selected a class you will see a list of "groups" of students you can assign letter grades to. You must select each group in turn, and assign letter grades to each student in the group.
