Math 435: Basic Abstract Algebra
Spring 2013

Course Description
The goal of this course is to study the properties of certain sets with binary algebraic operations, called groups and rings.
The required textbook is
  • A First Course in Abstract Algebra (seventh edition), by John B. Fraleigh.
We will cover Sections 1 to 33 in this book, approximately one section per class.

Homework
The two lowest homework scores will be dropped when computing your grade.
Homework is due in class on the due date. No papers will be accepted after this time.

Grades
  • Homework: 150 points
  • Midterms: 100 points each
  • Final: 150 points
