Title: Dynamics of infectious diseases in space and time

Abstract: As well as their applied importance, many infectious diseases provide a particularly clear view of nonlinear ecological dynamics. I describe recent progress in this area, using the highly immunizing infection, measles as an example. I then show how immune escape, driven by pathogen evolution, can complicate the spatio-temporal picture.
