English Proficiency

International teaching assistants must take the Test of Spoken English or the Penn State Oral English Test during the orientation period.

If you show proficiency in spoken English you will be permitted to teach without restriction. Otherwise, you must register for an appropriate ESL course. The course sequence ESL 115G, 117G, 118G may take one, two or three semesters dependent on the level of proficiency demonstrated.
