Simpson /usr/local/lib/teTeX/texmf/doc/local/psuthesis/README ORIGINAL REMARKS, FEBRARY 1995: Documentation for psuthesis.sty This directory documents the Penn State University Thesis style file, psuthesis.sty. This is a LaTeX 2.09 document style for typesetting a PhD thesis in conformity with the Penn State Thesis Office requirements as of July 1993. Note that the Thesis Office requirements themselves are on-line in http://www.gradsch.psu.edu/gs_overview/thesisguide/ Details of how to use the PSU Thesis style file, ./psuthesis.sty, and the compatible PSU Thesis Bibliography style file, ./psuthesis.bst, are explained in the documentation file, ./psuthesis.doc. The subdirectory ./sample209 contains a sample Ph D thesis prepared by this method. In 1994 the official LaTeX standard changed from LaTeX 2.09 to LaTex 2e. Unfortunately, the author of psuthesis.sty has not yet updated it to work with LaTeX 2e. In the meantime, process your PhD thesis file with "latex209" instead of "latex". NOTE ADDED MARCH 1995: Documentation for psuthesis.cls I have created a LaTeX 2e document class, psuthesis.cls. This is essentially just psuthesis.sty with minimal changes to make it work under LaTeX 2e. Although I'm not aware of any specific problems right now, users of psuthesis.cls are warned that it is experimental and may contain bugs. The advantage of psuthesis.cls over psuthesis.sty is that it works with LaTeX 2e and therefore is compatible with the AMS-LaTeX macro packages. To use psuthesis.cls, make your PhD thesis document file start with \documentclass[11pt]{psuthesis} \usepackage{amsmath} % if you want AMS-LaTeX mathematical macros \usepackage{amssymb} % if you want AMS fonts and symbols and follow the commented instructions in ./psuthesis.cls. To process your document file, use "latex" rather than "latex209". The subdirectory ./sample2e contains a sample thesis prepared by this method. NOTE ADDED JULY 1996: The latest version of this material is available for anonymous FTP at ftp://ftp.math.psu.edu/pub/simpson/tex/. If you have any questions, please contact me. NOTE ADDED NOVEMBER 1996: I have fixed some bugs involving the pseudocode environment, appendices, etc. But really, psuthesis.cls should be rewritten from the ground up to work with LaTeX 2e. I will try to always keep the latest version of this material available for anonymous FTP at ftp://ftp.math.psu.edu/pub/simpson/tex/ Stephen G.
