Gulf States Service Project 2006
New Iberia Group
On Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 10:00am, 62 Penn State
students and State College community members gathered in the parking
lot of State College Presbyterian church, put all their luggage in a
big blue van, and piled into five big white vans. At about 11:00,
van #4 finally made it out of the parking lot, and the road trip
began. One hour later, we reached Altoona, and decided to take an
hour-long rest stop at Sheetz. But, the road trip finally got
underway, and on Sunday, March 5, sometime in the evening, the final
group of twenty intrepid adventurers finally reached New Iberia,
Louisiana, where we were to spend the next week rebuilding houses and
building friendships, swatting at mosquitoes, fire ants, and
occasionally each other, and wondering where in the world Lois kept
coming up with all these songs from.
This site is dedicated to the pictures, songs, quotes,
etc. from that trip. So if you went, and you have anything
answering to that description that isn't on here, send it to me, and
I'll add it to the mix. You can also read what I wrote about the
trip on my blog,
and add any comments you deem appropriate...
Update:
We've been back down there the past two years (although I was sadly
unable to join the trip this past year), and will probably go again in
spring 2009. If you're interested
in
coming along, let me know and I'll give you more information, or check
out the UCM
website.
