Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to review the mathematical analysis of the eigenvalue problem associated with Maxwell's system. Our analysis is quite general and can be applied to several families of finite element edge methods. A new result is provided which links the commuting diagram property for the de Rham complex to the discrete compactness of the finite element spaces.
