| Title: | What is MathBio |
| Seminar: | Slow Pitch Seminar |
| Speaker: | Tim Reluga |
| Abstract: |
| The term ``mathbio'', an abbreviation for ``mathematical biology'', is shorthand for a broad area of applied mathematics research focusing on the study of scientific problems in biology using mathematical and computational tools. As such, the field of mathbio includes problems ranging from atomic scales to planetary scales, and the cross-scale couplings of everything in between. In this talk, I'll give a shotgun overview of the scope of mathbio research, accenting some history, notable results, intersections of pure and applied ideas, and a few open problems. |
