| Title: | Introduction to Homogenization Theory. |
| Seminar: | CCMA Luncheon Seminar |
| Speaker: | Volodymyr Rybalko, Khrakov, Ukraine, Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering |
| Abstract: |
| Homogenization theory studies PDE and variational problems with rapidly oscillating coefficients that describe highly heterogeneous media with periodic and random microstructure. The origins of homogenization are in the physics composite materials, dating back to the mid 19th century. Homogenization of periodic structures as a mathematical theory emerged in the late sixties. In this talk a short review of homogenization problems and methods will be presented. Classical concepts and methods such as G-convergence, compensated compactness and two-scale convergence will be discussed. |
