| The study of Michell Trusses tries to answer the question posed by Anthony George Maldon Michell in the early part of the twentieth century: what system of bars and cables built to withstand a system of point forces is most economical? The speaker will introduce the mathematics and mechanics behind Michell trusses, discuss existence and open questions, and give some optimality results. |
