| Title: | A generalization of Dirichlet's S-unit theorem |
| Seminar: | Algebra and Number Theory Seminar |
| Speaker: | Paul Fili, University of Rochester |
| Abstract: |
| In this talk we will discuss our recent generalization of Dirichlet's S-unit theorem from the context of the S-units of a number field to the group of all algebraic numbers with nontrivial valuations only at places lying above S. As this group is of infinite rank, we first explore how one should reformulate the statement of the theorem into a statement which makes sense for this larger group, and then we discuss the techniques used in the proof that this generalization holds.
