| This talk will outline one particular point of view on the Atiyah-Singer index theorem for elliptic operators. First, a special case of Atiyah-Singer (which includes many of the most interesting examples) will be proved as a corollary of Bott periodicity. Next, K-homology, the dual theory to K-theory, will be used
to prove the general case of Atiyah-Singer --- and also to obtain index formulas for operators which are not elliptic. |
