| Title: | Conditions to Embed a Partial Latin Square Inside a Complete Latin Square |
| Seminar: | Combinatorics/Partitions Seminar |
| Speaker: | Serge Ballif, Penn State |
| Abstract: |
| A (partial) latin square of order $n$ is an $n\times n$ array such that each of $n$ symbols occurs (at most) once in each row and column. T. Evans proved that a partial latin square of order $n$ can always be embedded inside a latin square of order $t$ for each $t\ge 2n$. In this talk we give necessary and sufficient conditions for there to exist an embedding of a given partial latin square of order $n$ inside a latin square of order $n+k$. |
