| Abstract: The “eta invariant” of a manifold, introduced by Atiyah, Patodi and Singer in the 1970s, blends analysis, geometry and topology in a subtle and surprising way. In this talk I’ll give an elementary introduction to this quantity and some of its uses. I aim to keep the prerequisites at first-year graduate student level. |
