| We discuss basic arithmetic properties of certain modular curves over function fields, which are analogous to Shimura curves arising from indefinite quaternion algebras over Q. In particular, we examine the "fundamental domains" of these curves in Bruhat-Tits trees and the existence of rational points over local fields. As applications of these results, we find explicit generating sets for certain arithmetic groups and obtain curves violating the Hasse principle. |
