| Title: | Passive tracers in a slowly decorrelating random velocity field. |
| Seminar: | Seminar on Probability and its Application |
| Speaker: | Alexei Novikov, PSU |
| Abstract: |
| Consider the movement of a single particle advected by a random flow
V. Here V=V(x,t) is a mean-zero, stationary, incompressible vector
field, modeled by an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. If V is sufficiently
well mixing, then the large-scale long-time asymptotic behavior of the
particle is diffusive, and the statistics of the distance between two
particles is also diffusive. In contrast, if V is slowly
decorrelating, then the large-scale long-time asymptotic behavior of
the particle may be described by a fractional Brownian motion, whereas
the distance between two particles still has diffusive behavior. This
is a joint work with T.Komorowski and L.Ryzhik. |
