|Title:||On Roe algebras|
|Speaker:||Rufus Willett, Vanderbilt University|
|There have been several versions of the Roe algebra (the terminology is due to Guoliang Yu) investigated since the first version was introduced in John Roe's thesis. Roe algebras were initially introduced as their K-theory is a receptacle for indices of elliptic operators on non-compact manifolds; they encode many aspects of the 'large-scale' geometry of a space. We will discuss relationships between some (uniform and not) versions of the Roe algebra, particularly the maximal Roe algebras introduced recently by Gong-Wang-Yu. We will also discuss expanding graphs in this context and philosophize about connections with the representation theory of discrete groups. The main results are joint work with Jàn Špakula, and much of the rest grew out of discussions with Guoliang Yu.|
