| Title: | An introduction to Rogue waves, dissipation, and downshifting |
| Seminar: | CCMA Luncheon Seminar |
| Speaker: | Diane Henderson, Penn State University |
| Abstract: |
| It will be an introduction to the afternoon talk, the abstract of which is:
The physical and statistical properties of rogue waves in deep water
are investigated using the focusing Nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation
and some of its higher order generalizations. Numerical investigations
and analytical arguments based on the inverse spectral theory of the
underlying integrable model, perturbation analysis, and statistical
methods provide a coherent picture of rogue waves associated with
nonlinear focusing events. Damping plays an important role in stability
and downshifting of waves. The effects of linear and nonlinear damping
on the development of rogue waves and the interaction between rogue waves
and downshifting are also examined. |
