| Title: | Multifractals, dimension theory, and thermodynamics for general dynamical systems |
| Seminar: | Center for Dynamics and Geometry Seminar |

| Abstract: |
| Level sets of asymptotic quantites -- Birkhoff averages, Lyapunov exponent, pointwise dimension -- encode information about a dynamical system in various multifractal spectra. These spectra are difficult to compute directly, but can in many cases be obtained from thermodynamic information via a Legendre transform. We give general results in this direction for the Birkhoff spectrum of both continuous and discontinuous observables. For conformal systems without critical points, we use a non-uniform version of Bowen's equation to give results for the Lyapunov spectrum and for the dimension spectrum of a weak Gibbs measure. |
