| The integers that can be represented as sums of three, four or five squares of prime numbers have long attracted the attention of analytic number theorists. During the last decade, attempts to study the exceptional sets for sums of three and four squares led to important developments in additive prime number theory. We will start with a survey of that work. Then, we will describe some recent work by Harman, Liu and the speaker on exceptional sets for sums of three squares of primes. |
