| Title: | An introduction to effective Hausdorff dimension |
| Seminar: | Logic Seminar |
| Speaker: | Phil Hudelson, Pennsylvania State University |
| Abstract: |
| Hausdorff dimension, often associated with the study of
fractals, is a generalization of the idea of dimension in vector spaces. In
this talk we will introduce effective Hausdorff dimension, as developed by
Lutz and Mayordomo. We will compare the classical and effective versions of
Hausdorff dimension, and discuss several key results in this area,
especially the surprising connections between effective Hausdorff dimension,
randomness, and Kolmogorov complexity. |
