| The finite element approximation of linear elasticity problems with mixed formulations is a problem with more technical difficulties than one might think at first sight. After a brief description of the reasons why it is difficult to create satisfactory methods, the lecture will review a particular class of method in which the symmetry of the stress tensor is not imposed exactly (as in most mixed formulation) but only in a weak sense, through suitable Lagrange multipliers. In particular a couple of very recent and very effective approaches will be presented. |
