Title:Numerical approximations of plate problems
Seminar:Marker Lecture Series
Speaker:Franco Brezzi, Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS)
Abstract:
With this lecture I will go back to a more general level, and discuss the main features of the Reissner-Mindlin model for moderately thick plates. We shall see why engineers are particularly interested in models of this type and why, however, the discretization becomes difficult when the thickness is very small. Some hint on the related (and more difficult) shell problems will also be given. This lecture sets part of the background for the subsequent lecture of L.D. Marini (of Friday 25-th).
