| Title: | On Spectral Properties of the Weakly Coupled Fibonacci Hamiltonian |
| Seminar: | Center for Dynamics and Geometry Colloquium |
| Speaker: | Anton Gorodetsky, University of California, Irvine |
| Abstract: |
| The discrete Schr\"odinger operator with Fibonacci potential is a central model in the study of electronic properties of one-dimensional quasicrystals. The spectrum of this operator for small
values of the coupling constant is a dynamically defined
Cantor set. It turns out that methods of hyperbolic dynamics can be used to describe detailed properties of the spectrum. We will remind some previously announced results (related to fractal characteristics of the spectrum) and discuss several new ones (formulated in terms of so called gap labeling theorem).
