| Simplicial volume is a homotopy invariant of manifolds that was first
introduced by Gromov. I will provide a brief introduction to the subject. I will
then outline the proof that closed locally symmetric spaces of non-compact type
have positive simplicial volume. This was joint work with Jean Lafont. |
