| Title: | Where Geometry, Analysis and Algebra Meet |
| Seminar: | Noncommutative Geometry Seminar |
| Speaker: | John Roe, Penn State |
| Abstract: |
| This is an introductory talk, the first of a short series on Riemann surfaces. These objects, invented in the 19th century, gave some of the first examples of the fusion of analytic, geometric and algebraic methods. The "noncommutative geometry" program springs out of these ideas. |
