| Title: | Eperson's Conjecture and a Curiosity from the Lost Notebook |
| Seminar: | Combinatorics/Partitions Seminar |
| Speaker: | Dr. Michael Hirschhorn, University of New South Wales |
| Abstract: |
| D. B. Eperson conjectured that, if n is odd and greater than 1, then 3n^2 can be written in more than one way as the sum of three odd squares. We prove this conjecture. Time allowing, we will also examine a curiosity from Ramanujan's Lost Notebook which gives infinitely many solutions to a^3 + b^3 = c^3 pm 1. |
