| Title: | Partitions With Distinct Even Parts and Ramanujan's lost Notebook |
| Seminar: | Combinatorics/Partitions Seminar |
| Speaker: | Dr. George Andrews, Department of Mathematics, The Pennsylvania State University |
| Abstract: |
| The object will be to start with some of the simpler but still
surprising formulas from the Lost Notebook. We shall describe some of the
frustrations and miscues that attended their elucidation. We will be naturally
led to partitions in which no even part is repeated (DE partitions). Two
relevant partition statistics will be defined relevant to DE partitions: (1)
the rank will be the greatest integer in half the largest part minus the number
of even parts, (2) the number of exceptional parts, i.e. parts that are either
even or smallest (or both). These statistics will be related to marvellous
theorems by Corson, Favero, Liesinger and Zubairy. |
