| We present a diffuse interface (phase field) approach to
model the critical nuclei morphology in solid-state phase
transformations which has been a long standing problem. We discuss
the mathematical properties of a phase field formulation and the
numerical algorithms for the computation of critical nuclei in the
framework of the calculus of variation. Both analytical and numerical
results are provided to show that the phase field approach is able
to predict critical nucleus morphology in elastically anisotropic
solids without making a priori assumptions. |
