| INSTRUCTIONS

Why won’t this work? It turns out that the reason things go wrong is related to some deep questions in the geometry, analysis and representation theory of discrete groups and metric spaces. In turn, these questions tie in with one of the central conjectures of geometric functional analysis. The talk will be a gentle introduction to these ideas and not much background will be required.
