| Title: | A Necessary and Sufficient Condition for the Existence of Transient Potentials |
| Seminar: | Center for Dynamics and Geometry Seminar |
| Speaker: | V. Cyr, PSU |
| Abstract: |
| A countable Markov shift is the left shift acting on the space of (one sided) infinite trajectories through a directed graph. In the thermodynamic formalism of Markov shifts, we ask whether there is an equilibrium measure. A known obstruction to this is the phenomenon of transience.
In this talk, we ask when a countable directed graph carries a transient potential. We define a new criterion on a graph which turns out to be necessary and sufficient for the existence of a transient potential on the associated countable Markov shift. |
