|In the mid 80's Singer asked for a generalization of the spectral ﬂow to higher dimensions. We describe a class of real Banach manifolds, each classifying K_1. These are certain Grassmannians of (hermitian) Lagrangian subspaces in a Hilbert space. We build geometric representatives for the generators of the cohomology rings of these spaces. Given an S^1-family self-adjoint, Fredholm operators, in transversal conditions, the pull-back via the classifying map of the ﬁrst such generator is Poincare dual to the spectral ﬂow. We describe the localization formulae which hold for the higher cohomology classes.|
