| Title: | Module categories in geometry and topology; Part I |
| Seminar: | GAP Seminar |
| Speaker: | Jonathan Block, U Penn |
| Abstract: |
| Note: This is the first part of a two-part talk. The second part will be given on Thursday in the NCG seminar.
Many deep theorems in geometry and topology can be expressed as statements about categories of modules. We develop a framework in the context of noncommutative geometry which accomplishes two things:
1) it links the ncg of Connes with that of Kontsevich et al.,
2) it suggests new module categories for different kinds of geometries.
In the first talk we describe the framework and give some examples of the kinds of questions we can ask and answer. In the second we apply this framework to rational homotopy theory and to symplectic manifolds. |
