| Title: | Nonlinear stability of time-periodic viscous shocks |
| Seminar: | Computational and Applied Mathematics Colloquium |
| Speaker: | Björn Sandstede, Division of Applied Mathematics, Brown University |
| Abstract: |
| Time-periodic viscous Lax shocks are considered in the context
of viscous conservation laws. Specifically, I shall present recent results that
give nonlinear stability of such solutions under the assumption of spectral
stability. It will also be shown that time-periodic Lax shocks can emerge at
Hopf bifurcations of Lax shocks and that the resulting time-periodic waves are
spectrally stable if the bifurcation is supercritical. The motivation for this
work comes from pulsating detonation waves and from sources in
reaction-diffusion systems. This is joint work with Margaret Beck and Kevin
Zumbrun. |
