Title:Recent advances in algorithms for lattice simulations of low-energy Quantum Chromo--Dynamics
Seminar:Computational and Applied Mathematics Colloquium
Speaker:James Brannick, Penn State, Department of Mathematics
I will briefly introduce QCD and the numerical models thereof coming from various discretizations on a lattice. Then, I will discuss the difficulties encountered in attempting to invert the discretized Dirac operator as part of a Monte Carlo evaluation of the Euclidian QCD Path Integral. I will also review efforts over the past several decades in developing solvers for the Dirac inversion problem and then present some of my recent research in this area, leading to a novel multigrid solver that eliminates the critical slowing down exhibited by all previous local algorithms for interesting choices of physical parameters, e.g., disorder of the gluon fields and masses of light quarks.
