| I will present a classification of closed geodesics (not passing
through the vertices) on regular tetrahedra, octahedra, icosahedra and
cubes, with some open questions remaining in the last two cases. Some
experimentally observed pecularities in the behavior of closed
geodesics will be discussed (in the case of a cube).
The talk will be absolutely elementary.
Exercise: what are the possible lengths of simple closed geodesics on
a cube with the edge 1? (Answer: 4 and the square roots of 18 and 20.) |
