Title:The symplectic displacement energy
Seminar:Geometry Luncheon Seminar
Speaker:Augustin Banyaga, PSU
Abstract:
We show that the infimum of the Hofer-like norms of symplectic diffeomorphisms which displace a non-empty open set A in a compact symplectic manifold ( the symplectic displacement enery of A) is a strictly positive number. This generalizes a theorem of Eliashberg-Polterovich. As a consequence, we prove a result justifying the introduction of the notion of strong symplectic homeomorphisms. The talk is based on a joint work with D. Hurtubise and P.Spaeth.
