| The talk will focus on the nonlinear wave equation
u_tt - c(u) (c(u) u_x)_x = 0
The first part will review some earlier results.
In particular, by a change in the independent and dependent variables, the equation can be reformulated as
a semiinear system, and solved by a standard fixed point argument.
The second part will discuss open problems: structurally stable singularities, dissipative solutions,
multi-dimensional radially symmetric solutions, uniqueness and continuous dependence on the initial data. |
