|Conservation laws are systems of PDEs that include many of the most fundamental physical principles such as conservations of mass, momentum, and energy. Shock waves are widely known to form in such a hyperbolic system of conservation laws. In this talk, I will briefly review time-asymptotic (orbital) stability of shock waves which are regularized by either viscosity (e.g., Navier-Stokes) or by some regularizing elliptic operators (e.g., radiative hyperbolic-elliptic systems). I will then discuss some main mathematical tools for a stability analysis under initial perturbations in arbitrary spatial dimensions.|
