| Title: | Explicit bases of modular symbols over function fields |
| Seminar: | Algebra and Number Theory Seminar |
| Speaker: | Cécile Armana, University of Muenster, visiting Brown |
| Abstract: |
| Modular symbols over the rationals are a useful theoretical and computational tool for computing modular forms. In 1992 J. Teitelbaum introduced a similar notion of modular symbols over the function field of positive characteristic $\mathbf{F}_{q}(T)$. They are related to various objects (automorphic forms, abelian varieties, Drinfeld modular forms) defined over this field. The group of such modular symbols has a finite presentation (Manin has given a similar presentation for classical modular symbols). Both presentations are extensively used in algorithms for computing modular symbols. |
