|Various geohazards such as landslides, debris flow, and mud flow involve large deformations of geomaterials. To anticipate and prepare for these hazards, it is important to predict the extent of impacted area due to these hazards. In this talk, I will discuss the application of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method to the simulation of large deformations in geomaterials. The development of our SPH model will first be introduced, followed by the model validation through three problems including axisymmetric collapse of a granular column, large deformation of a viscoelastic gel, and earthquake-induced slope deformations.|
